The Melchizedek Order & Priesthood

Image
.. oh, it sounds very mysteriously In fact – this is an important part /background of the New Covenant: an often neglected apostolic identity This article is part of the "Vitalize" pack This theme is at the heart of the New Testament: Since we Christians are the royal, priestly family, {1 Peter 2:9} to serve as priests in faith we need to understand the true position of the Royal High Priest: Jesus Christ. He has been praying for the Kingdom and glory of Gd on Earth as it is in heaven . The following two short teachings give us a closer link to Jesus' highest rank. I. The messianic high-priestly line In the first teaching Lon Solomon explains why Jesus Christ is new , what his role is and what positive consequences this has for us. The Royal Priest

Image
By Bible Project 10 Episodes In this podcast series , Tim Mackie and Jon Collins trace the theme of royal priests through the Bible, beginning in the garden of Eden and culminating in Jesus. Episode 1 Priests of Eden In the story of the Bible, all the main players are prophets, priests, or kings. While it might seem foreign to us today, those three roles are intimately connected to what it means to be people created in the image of God. Join Tim and Jon for the first episode of a new series on the royal priesthood! Episode 2 Who Was Melchizedek? What do Abraham, Melchizedek, and David all have in common? They’re part of the unfolding theme of the royal priesthood in the Bible. In this week’s episode, join Tim and Jon as they explore how this theme is part of humanity’s quest to get back to the blessings of Eden. Episode 3 Doomed to Fail? The origins of Israel’s royal priesthood are anything but glamorous. From Moses rejecting God five times to Aaron cr...

The Good Shepherd — Fight & Divine Intervention

Image
My name is Dr. Ken Bailey. It was my privilege to teach New Testament for almost 40 years across the Middle East, mostly in Arabic, and the subject we have is a continuation of our series of studies on primary images for leadership in the New Testament. We looked first at servant, (...) and we have introduced the subject of the Good Shepherd. Now we introduce the big fight with the wolf. The shepherd is there, and the sheep are threatened by an attacking wolf, and what is going to happen? ... this particular hymn breaks into three sections, and all three sections of them are critically important. We can only skip over them very, very quickly and in a very cursory manner. The wolf attacks, there is a hireling, (an assistant shepherd), and the hireling gets scared and runs away. The wolf attacks, and there's a fight between the wolf and the shepherd, but the fight is not recorded. And by the time the fight is over, the wolf is either killed or driven away. We...

The misled leader

and the teetering vessel of the Lord Study David again brought together all the able young men of Israel—thirty thousand. He and all his men went to Baalah 1 in Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the Name, the name of the Lord Almighty, who is enthroned between the cherubim on the ark. They set the ark of God on a new cart and brought it from the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, sons of Abinadab, were guiding the new cart with the ark of God on it, and Ahio was walking in front of it. David and all Israel were celebrating with all their might before the Lord, with castanets, 2 harps, lyres, timbrels, sistrums and cymbals. When they came to the threshing floor of Nakon, Uzzah reached out and took hold of the ark of God, because the oxen stumbled. The Lord’s anger burned against Uzzah because of his irreverent act; therefore God struck him down, and he died there beside the ark of God. Then David was...

A priestly manner, Christian character– worthy of the gospel of Christ

Image
Manner & Character worthy of the gospel of Christ ... he had to become like his brothers and sisters in every respect, so that he might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in the service of God, to make a sacrifice of atonement for the sins of the people. Because he himself was tested by what he suffered, he is able to help those who are being tested. Heb 2:17 Christ did not glorify himself in becoming a High Priest, but was appointed by the one who said to him, “You are my Son, today I have begotten you”; as he says also in another place, “You are a Priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek ”. Heb 5:5 In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a Son, he learned obedience through what he suffered. Heb 5:7 ...you are a chosen race, a Royal Priesthood, a holy nati...

Melchizedek and Jethro

Image
from "The Bible Project" The Setting of an Important Meeting ... Tim, Jon, and Josh discuss the events right before Melchizedek enters the Pentateuch (Genesis 13-14:16), which Josh believes are crucial for understanding the interaction between Abraham and Melchizedek that follows (Genesis 14:17-24). Genesis 13:14-18 The Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, “Now raise your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward, and eastward and westward. For all the land which you see I will give to you and to your descendants forever. … Arise, walk about in the land through its length and width, for I will give it to you.” Then Abram moved his tent and came and lived by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron. And there he built an altar to the Lord. It’s subtle, but the narrator is implying that Abraham did not fully obey God’s command to explore the land. He just set up camp a short distance from where he had been. (This is an impo...

Jesus' two phases (stages)

Image
excerpt I'd like to emphasize this note as my favorite, a key approach among the others. During his active earthly ministry, Jesus worked in two phases. Every step he took, every decision he made, and every action he carried out in the Holy Spirit began with consultation with the Father. He took advantage only of those situations and carried out only those steps and battles that had already been determined in heaven. Now let's see how: ... Jesus often used the "2 phase prayer model" too. We, sometimes call it: "Tabernacle of David" ..or 'Davidic' prayer-tent. Pls. don't forget, this is Jesus' very own family-heritage, the Davidic lineage. Practically this is the technical implementation of the outline model: Inside - briefing Outside - Action & Mission* *(avoiding the seemingly good things.) This is not a modern, nor "Early Christian" invention. We have numerous psalms ...

Depression or Glory

Image
Who I am? Depression exists when we underestimate ourselves. When we look at ourselves on the natural way & observe the visible things: we turn away from the Heaven. The writer of the Ecclesiastes {King Salomon} says: “Absolute futility,” says the Teacher. “Absolute futility. Everything is futile.” What does a man gain for all his efforts that he labors at under the sun? Ecc 1:2-3 Perspective The above-mentioned section shows a problem. The problem of the perspective: " under the sun ". King Salomon started his life with splendour and glory and finished with multiple wives and concubines - alongside their multiple gods/goddesses... Well... We're not meant to focus on things "under the sun". If we did, we missed the point. Let us only be illuminated from the side of heaven! When adoration & praise happen, alongside with the worship – Heaven happens. This was the original, Davidic heritage for Salomon! 2Chron 5 7 The ...
