Fasting, lent and Prayer

Image
Prayer, Fasting, lent and other devoted events before Gd Almighty I would like to be short & pointed, clearly separating the recent {popular} practice from the biblical teaching about prayer and fasting. We can see various religious special days, pilgrimage, festivals and special events around us and I think this little study will surprise you. The 3rd century saw many changes in the then "Catholic" Church, which was in her new power in the Earthly domain. And new power means : carnal, political power-circles. In this way the "church" & the leaders significantly rethought (or over thought?) then "adjusted" and eventually replaced the original apostolic practice, which was based on Christ's teachings. The more religious pious people earned acceptance and benefit in the pagan Roman world the more spectacular and pompous ceremony took place around the church. Jesus Christ is crystal clear on this: "Do not lay up fo...

you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God (the heavenly Jerusalem), to myriads of angels in festive gathering, to the assembly of the firstborn whose names have been written in heaven, to God who is the Judge of all, to the spirits of righteous people made perfect, to Jesus (mediator of a new covenant), and to the sprinkled blood.. When Jesus Christ multiplies

Image
Late in the day, the Twelve approached and said to Him, “Send the crowd away, so they can go into the surrounding villages and countryside to find food and lodging, because we are in a deserted place here.” “You give them something to eat,” He told them. “We have no more than five loaves and two fish,” they said, “unless we go and buy food for all these people.” (For about 5,000 men were there.) Then He told His disciples, “Have them sit down in groups of about 50 each.” They did so, and had them all sit down. Then He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke them. He kept giving them to the disciples to set before the crowd. Everyone ate and was filled. Then they picked up 12 baskets of leftover pieces. Luke 9:12-17 When Jesus multiplies He goes through the same process, taking us through the stages that lead to the movement: 1st he sets down the crowd, attenuating the stir, (Ps. 46:10) then re-orienting their...

Praying with Jesus Christ

Image
..there is one God and one mediator between God and humanity, Christ Jesus, Himself human, who gave Himself — a ransom for all, a testimony at the proper time. 1Tim 2:5-6 Therefore, we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens — Jesus the Son of God. Therefore, let us approach the Throne of Grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us at the proper time. Heb 4:14,16 Jesus teaches us about prayer: "I have revealed Your name to the men You gave Me from the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. Now they know that all things You have given to Me are from You, because the words that You gave Me, I have given them. They have received them and have known for certain that I came from You. They have believed that You sent Me. I pray for them. Jn 17:6-10 "when you pray, go into your private room, shut your door, and pray to your Father wh...

The Mediator

Image
T here is one God and one mediator between God and humanity, Christ Jesus, Himself human, who gave Himself — a ransom for all, a testimony at the proper time. 1Tim 2:5-6 W e have this kind of high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a minister of the sanctuary and the true tabernacle that was set up by the Lord and not man. ... if He were on earth, He wouldn’t be a priest, since there are those offering the gifts prescribed by the Law. ... But Jesus has now obtained a superior ministry, and to that degree He is the mediator of a better covenant, which has been legally enacted on better promises. Heb 8:1-2, 4,6 Y ou have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God (the heavenly Jerusalem), to myriads of angels in festive gathering, to the assembly of the firstborn whose names have been written in heaven, to God who is the Judge of all, to the spirits of righteous pe...

When you pray & fast...

Image
Whenever you pray , you must not be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by people. I assure you: They’ve got their reward! But when you pray , go into your private room, shut your door, and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. When you pray , don’t babble like the idolaters, since they imagine they’ll be heard for their many words. Don’t be like them, because your Father knows the things you need before you ask Him. Mt 6:5-8 ( The model prayer: Our Father ) Therefore, you should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, Your name be honored as holy. Your kingdom come. Your will be done     on earth as it is in heaven... Mt 6:9-10 Whenever you fast , don’t be sad-faced like the hypocrites. For they make their faces unattractive so their fasting is obvious to people. I assure you: They’ve got their reward! But when you fast ...

Two dimensions of Worship Adoration Prayer

Image
Our Worship, Adoration & Prayer happens / works for two reasons; A. We humans worship Gd because He is the Mighty Gd and we are the creatures of his hand. He created the galaxies and - according to His Image - He created us to live in noble status before His presence. After the ruined status (the sin), He restored the sonship in us by giving us a reconciled, adopted status through His Son. B. We, believers, restored humans worship and pray with adoration because we want to focus on the Heavenly ID: seeing Gd by the Heaven first, learning the Heaven through Gd's eyes. We practice the new life, proclaiming & representing the Heaven as the royal priesthood: (1Pt 2:9), and from this position, "acting" the Heaven: "Your will be done on the Earth     as it is in the Heaven" · Paul's foundation · ID - Cause and Effect · Jesus' two prayer models

Prayer Basics

Apostolic Instructions on Prayer, and the technical meaning of "Christ". First of all, then, I urge 1 that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone 2 , for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life 3 in all godliness and dignity. This is good, and it pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For 5 there is one God and one mediator between God and humanity, Christ Jesus, Himself human, who gave Himself — a ransom for all 6 , a testimony at the proper time. ... I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or argument... 7 1Tim 2:1-6,8 (Holman C.S.B.) Notes 1 "I emphatically tell you.." It's not a command but a strong suggestion with apostolic authority. 2 "for everyone" means everyone. The next verses explain the social layers and ...

The breastpiece (breastplate)

God is Love – 3/3 meditation The High Priest in the Old Testament : You are to make an embroidered breastpiece (breastplate) for making decisions.. ... Place a setting of gemstones on it, four rows of stones: ... The 12 stones are to correspond to the names of Israel’s sons. Each stone must be engraved like a seal, with one of the names of the 12 tribes. Exo 28:15.17.21 Whenever he enters the sanctuary, Aaron is to carry the names of Israel’s sons over his heart on the breastpiece for decisions, as a continual reminder before the Lord. Exo 28:29 ↑ ↓ The High Priest in the New Testament : ..because He, Jesus remains forever, He holds His priesthood permanently. Therefore, He is always able to save those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to intercede for them. II. Almost Incredible Promises - Part 1.

Image
From the book: The Kneeling Christian by Albert Richardson If you have faith and doubt not … all things, whatsoever you shall ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive. Mt 21:22 "When we stand with Christ in glory, looking o'er life's finished story," the most amazing feature of that life as it is looked back upon will be its prayerlessness. We shall be beside ourselves with astonishment that we spent so little time in real intercession. It will be our turn to wonder . In our Lords last discourse to His loved ones, just before the most wonderful of all prayers, the Master again and again held out His kingly golden scepter and said, as it were, "What is your request? It shall be granted unto you, even unto the whole of My kingdom." Do we believe this? We must, if we believe our Bibles. Shall we just read over very quietly and thoughtfully one of our Lord's promises, reiterated so many times? If we had never read them befo...

II. Almost Incredible Promises Part 2.

Image
From the book: The Kneeling Christian by Albert Richardson If you have faith and doubt not … all things, whatsoever you shall ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive. Mt 21:22 Do we doubt His power? Not for a moment. Has He not said, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye ... and, behold, I am with you always (Matt. 28:18-20)? Do we doubt His wisdom? Do we mistrust His choice for us? Not for a moment. And yet, very few of His followers consider prayer worthwhile. Of course, they would deny this, but actions speak louder than words. Are we afraid to put God to the test? He has said we may do so. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, ... and prove me now in this, said the LORD of the hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive it (Mal. 3:10). Whenever God makes us a promise, let us boldly say, as did the apostle Paul, I believe God, that it shall be e...

..a right to speak

Image
since we have a right to speak (we have confidence to enter) the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way... since we have a Great Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean,.. our bodies washed with pure water. Heb 10:19-22

Not Worried About Anything

Image
by David Guzik Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6 In prayer, believers sometimes are hesitant to simply ask for what they need. Maybe we worry that we are bothering God, so instead of asking we settle for less, do the best we can, and decide to wait until things are really bad before we pray about it. It shouldn’t be that way. In Philippians 4:6, God tells us at least two things: – NO-thing should fill us with anxiety. – EVERY-thing can be made a matter of prayer. Remember: "be anxious for nothing" is presented as a gentle command, not as an option. Undue care trespasses {intrusively} into God’s territory for our lives. Chosen anxiety make us to be the "father" of the household instead of a child. Of course, there is a difference between chosen anxiety and a godly concern, but every worry and undue concern the believer chooses to cl...

Blood and Fire

Image
There was a time in my life when I rejected, both externally and internally, everything as "useless", such as spiritual gifts, etc. Such (testimony) writings will only impart profound blessings to us if we read them in a spirit of repentance and confess our own sloth and poverty. Then we cannot put them down without asking and pleading with all our hearts, Lord, fill me also with the Holy Spirit and fire! Yes, then it will be great and important, even holy, what is written on the banner of the Salvation Army: 'Blood and Fire'. We need the blood of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit if we do not want our lives to be poor, to be empty and fruitless. Without the blood of Jesus, there is no forgiveness, no healing (Isa.53:5) Without the Holy Spirit, there is no power, no empowerment (Acts.1:7-8) Emil Nigg

Faithful High Priest

Image
Holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession, who was faithful to him who appointed him, just as Moses also was faithful in all God’s house... Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant.. Christ is faithful over God’s house as a son. And we are his house if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope.. .. For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. Heb 3

Praise, Pray, Proclaim

© jhopfan.org This article is a part of the "Vitalize" pack Isaiah 62:6 Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen on your walls; they will never be silent, day or night. There is no rest for you, who remind the Lord. Do not give Him rest until He establishes and makes Jerusalem the praise of the earth. · Does this statement only apply to Jerusalem? · Has the revelation been fulfilled? · Definition of guard? We are to continually praise, glorify and worship God – because Jesus prays that God's Kingdom will come and His will be done here on earth, as it is in the Heaven . And in heaven, there is constant praise, worship and adoration. (I wrote a study about the reflection of the Heaven here. ) We're the royal priesthood in the New Testament. So the basic priestly ministries of prayer, fasting, thanksgiving, worship and representation are our responsibility. Although you see a different order on the jhopfan.or...

From Guilt to the Throne

Image
Guilt or Throne? spiritual, mental hygiene, mutual need, purification, confidence, etc. This article is part of the "Vitalize" pack Dear saints and beloved! I recently visited a church which has a beautiful family life but suffers from a typical 21 century sickness. The guilt. Interestingly, leaders have told me that members are not as eager to come and get their lives back on track when they commit sins. They simply do not confess them openly. Since it is pastoral responsibility first - I really don't understand, why... The place we came from I believe that guilt is one of the most serious attacks on the humankind. People, nations can do "amazing" things to get rid of guilt. They walk thousands of miles, they squeeze themselves, they oppress themselves and unfortunately they oppress others just to see their own lives as superior and better. In fact, we see whole networks promising "grace" without any chanc...
