Why did Jesus come?

Why did Jesus come? Here is what the Bible has to say about that: To fulfil the Law and the Prophets Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfil them – Matthew 5:17 To serve and ransom his people For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many – Mark 10:45 To be an advocate for us …if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. – 1 John 2:1 To seek and save the lost For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost. – Luke 19:10 To bring life The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. – John 10:10 To save the world For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. – John 3:17 To bring eternal life For God so loved the world, that he gave his only...

A shoot from the stump of Jesse

Image
meditation There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse 1 , and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit. And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him 2 , the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD. Isa 11:1-2 ... In that day the root of Jesse 1 , who shall stand as a signal 3 for the peoples—of him shall the nations inquire, and his resting place shall be glorious. In that day the Lord will extend his hand yet a second time to recover the remnant that remains of his people 4 , from Assyria, from Egypt, from Pathros, from Cush, from Elam, from Shinar, from Hamath, and from the coastlands of the sea. He will raise a signal for the nations Isa 11:10-11 Notes: 1 Paul quoted this verse in Rom 15:12. referring to the Messiah: “The root of Jesse will come, even he who arises to rule the Gentiles; in him will the Gentiles hope.” "A ro...

War and hatred?

Image
Our enemy, satan, tries to make us hate our fellow humans. The apostolic teaching warns: we do not have war on a physical and visible level, but in the invisible, heavenly world. {Eph 6:10} At work, in the marketplace, among rivals, on the battlefield: The "enemy" almost doesn't matter. War always starts with condemning-judging others. But who am I to do so? {Mt 7:1-2} Whoever proclaims a war {by the secular power of any religion/trend} lives in a carnal way, under a battle psychosis. Under judgement. Why? Because it is the means /tools, not just the end that counts. If the fight is physical, the person eventually begins to follow the path of satan and serves it with physical warfare. And he dies. {Jesus warns in Mt 26:52} Since life and death are basically spiritual things, it would make sense to keep all of these in God's power. He gives us grace to have life. {Jn 10:10} He is the way, the truth, the life. {Jn 14:6} The good news is that believers have de...

Háború és gyűlölet?

Image
A háború mindig mások elítélésével kezdődik.

Desiring mercy - love

Image
When Jesus/Yeshua/Isa was humiliated and lashed he had to learn the total annihilation. Annihilation by Sin and the mechanically used Law. By Sin: through our human cruel nature. By Law: through human "rules" the misunderstanding of the Holy Law, the ineffectiveness of the so called Law-culture. Facing its cruelty when it faces the mercy, release, grace and the domain of reconciliation. Hos 6:6 says: "I desire mercy {loyalty-love}   not sacrifice The knowledge of Gd   not burnt offerings" This is an essential ingredient for the dynamic of the Kingdom, even today. Knowledge of Gd = faithful loyal love. Mercy, (even when confronted with secular order, trend, or religious spirits) = sync with Gd. Consequently: If The knowledge of Gd is mercy, it's action. The knowledge of Gd is knowing/practicing His thoughts and living out them: This is how we read: "walking in the Truth" . John says: I was very glad when some brother...

Freed from their sins and healed by Jesus

Image
Being able to help people in such an extraordinary way has given you a certain satisfaction, I suppose. I was very, very happy to see that some people were cured. But I never forgot who the Helper was. Whenever a letter like that came to me about healing, I would kneel down with those words: 'Look, My Saviour, this is for You, the thanks are for You,... but I can rejoice in this too, can't I? Were you also a pastor of the sick? I suppose praying over the sick and caring for the sick go hand in hand. If I was called to see a patient, that was the first question before prayer: "Is everything okay between you and the Savior?" In many cases, confession followed, clearing the way for a prayer of faith. James did not write in vain: "...even if he has sinned, he will be forgiven" (James 5:14-17) ... I am thinking here of the story of the healing of the man with a stroke (Matthew 9:2), who was first freed from his sins and then heal...

When Jesus Christ multiplies

Image
Late in the day, the Twelve approached and said to Him, “Send the crowd away, so they can go into the surrounding villages and countryside to find food and lodging, because we are in a deserted place here.” “You give them something to eat,” He told them. “We have no more than five loaves and two fish,” they said, “unless we go and buy food for all these people.” (For about 5,000 men were there.) Then He told His disciples, “Have them sit down in groups of about 50 each.” They did so, and had them all sit down. Then He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke them. He kept giving them to the disciples to set before the crowd. Everyone ate and was filled. Then they picked up 12 baskets of leftover pieces. Luke 9:12-17 When Jesus multiplies He goes through the same process, taking us through the stages that lead to the movement: 1st he sets down the crowd, attenuating the stir, (Ps. 46:10) then re-orienting their...

Looking, weeping, and living

Image
About Zech 12:10 By David Guzik – Enduring Word Today, let's talk about looking, weeping, and living . I'm going to read you from Zechariah 12, verse 10, where we read this. And I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the spirit of grace and supplication. Then they will look on me whom they have pierced. Yes, they will mourn for him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for him as one grieves for a firstborn. Zechariah 12:10 Zechariah 12 is all about a great outpouring of the spirit of God upon his ancient people of Israel. He promises to bless, restore, and strengthen them in the last days. As Zechariah tells us in chapter 12, verse 10, part of this great outpouring of strength and might to defend Jerusalem will be an outpouring of his spirit. But it will be for grace and supplication. God will move among Israel and bring saving grace and repentant prayer. Then God made a remarkable promise: Then they will look o...

Covenant Assurance

Image
By David Guzik {enduringword.com} on May 26, 2024 (Abraham) said, “Lord GOD, how shall I know that I will inherit it?” Genesis 15:8 Jesus spoke of faith that could move mountains (based on Matthew 17:20), but often our doubts seem to create those mountains. Trusting God and His promises is a constant challenge, faced by everyone who has ever tried to chase away doubt. Sometimes doubt comes from unbelief – an attitude that doubts God will keep His word or can keep His promises. Other times doubt is connected to faith that is growing and maturing; a doubt that recognizes that there is no weakness or wavering in God, but we are weak in our ability to trust. This was the kind of doubt that led a desperate father to say to Jesus, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24) God promised Abram a son and he waited ten (10!) years. Abram was successful in business and every other enterprise, but he thought “what good is all that without the fulfillment of God’s promis...

Praying with Jesus Christ

Image
..there is one God and one mediator between God and humanity, Christ Jesus, Himself human, who gave Himself — a ransom for all, a testimony at the proper time. 1Tim 2:5-6 Therefore, we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens — Jesus the Son of God. Therefore, let us approach the Throne of Grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us at the proper time. Heb 4:14,16 Jesus teaches us about prayer: "I have revealed Your name to the men You gave Me from the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. Now they know that all things You have given to Me are from You, because the words that You gave Me, I have given them. They have received them and have known for certain that I came from You. They have believed that You sent Me. I pray for them. Jn 17:6-10 "when you pray, go into your private room, shut your door, and pray to your Father wh...

The Mediator

Image
T here is one God and one mediator between God and humanity, Christ Jesus, Himself human, who gave Himself — a ransom for all, a testimony at the proper time. 1Tim 2:5-6 W e have this kind of high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a minister of the sanctuary and the true tabernacle that was set up by the Lord and not man. ... if He were on earth, He wouldn’t be a priest, since there are those offering the gifts prescribed by the Law. ... But Jesus has now obtained a superior ministry, and to that degree He is the mediator of a better covenant, which has been legally enacted on better promises. Heb 8:1-2, 4,6 Y ou have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God (the heavenly Jerusalem), to myriads of angels in festive gathering, to the assembly of the firstborn whose names have been written in heaven, to God who is the Judge of all, to the spirits of righteous pe...

When you pray & fast...

Image
Whenever you pray , you must not be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by people. I assure you: They’ve got their reward! But when you pray , go into your private room, shut your door, and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. When you pray , don’t babble like the idolaters, since they imagine they’ll be heard for their many words. Don’t be like them, because your Father knows the things you need before you ask Him. Mt 6:5-8 ( The model prayer: Our Father ) Therefore, you should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, Your name be honored as holy. Your kingdom come. Your will be done     on earth as it is in heaven... Mt 6:9-10 Whenever you fast , don’t be sad-faced like the hypocrites. For they make their faces unattractive so their fasting is obvious to people. I assure you: They’ve got their reward! But when you fast ...

If Jesus spoke Aramaic, how did he speak to the Romans?

Image
Eleftherios Tserkezis (Mind the gap between “spoke Aramaic” and “only spoke Aramaic.”) Scholarship has long established that early Roman Palestine was far from monolingual. As many as four languages were known and spoken in the region — Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek and Latin . The real question, of course, is how widespread each of them was and on what occasions they were used. A plurality of scholars believe the common language in everyday life was indeed Aramaic. For trans-regional and cross-communal communication, though, Greek was more useful; in fact, there’s even a growing minority of scholars who argue that Greek was the overall lingua franca. Hebrew was probably limited to a liturgical and educational context, and Latin was used in the army and administration. Jesus grew up in a Jewish family, so Aramaic was probably his mother tongue. However, his native Galilee, aptly nicknamed “Galilee of the Gentiles,” was home to a diverse population for centuries, partl...

The shepherd - Who is the door

Image
connection between shepherd and door {study} ...he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. John 10:2 A: The gates {and doors} were the place for elders' leaders' gatherings in the ancient towns. In this way - they symbolises the rank and the Authority. The gatekeeper obeys the rule of the town. But - as we can see later in the verse John 10:7 the shepherd himself also - the door. "Political and spiritual leaders were often called shepherds in the ancient world (Isaiah 56:11, Jeremiah 3:15). Jesus explained that not everyone among the sheep is a true shepherd; some are like thieves and robbers. One mark of their being a thief and a robber is how they gain entry among the sheep. The idea is that there is a door, a proper way to gain entry. Not everyone who stands among the sheep comes that way. Some climb up some other...

Padre nuestro que estás en los cielos

Image

Our Father in the Heaven

Image
[You can listen this with audio assistant]   It is a well-known prayer even for non-Christians. However, not many people know that it is basically a prayer pattern and not a mantra that loses its meaning after a while. Many people today pray it automatically. But Jesus the King prays it systematically . Some of the phrases below even need to be updated for the better understanding of meaning. We must see that Jesus Christ showed this pattern to his disciples to give them a framework for their daily prayer. It is a preference & reference too: for Jesus, the key issue is that God's names be known and His Kingdom be here on Earth in the splendour and power as it is in Heaven. In other words - that the Heaven would touch Earth and Gd's restoration would be at work. When Heaven touches the Earth our perspective is restored. We can read in Mt 6:9-13: Our Father in the Heaven: Who dwells in the Heaven in the heavenly Realm, sitting...

The real basis for judgment

Image
The real basis of the judgment   According to Jesus' words When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.* And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left.**   Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you ...
