Where Does Our Righteousness Come From?

short notice Who are the Judaizers? The Apostle Paul warns his readers about the Judaizers who oppose the gospel (Phil 3:2–3). Paul’s conflicts with the Judaizers can be seen in greater detail in Acts and Galatians (e.g., Acts 15:1–19; Gal. 2:15–21; 3:6–4:31), as well as in the rest of his letters. Paul rejected their teaching that Gentiles must first become Jews and obey all the OT laws in order to be saved. In contrast, Paul has given up his spiritual and ethnic privileges for the sake of knowing Christ (Phil. 3:4–11). His righteousness comes through Christ, not the law (Phil 3:12–16). The justified /righteous person in the New Testament “Justified” means “counted righteous” or “declared righteous” by God (acc. to ESV footnote). If people obeyed all of God’s perfect moral standards, they could be justified by their own merits. But Paul says that this is impossible for anyone to do (see Romans 1–2). "Works of the law" means any human effort to be justified by ...

An influential life in the Holy Spirit and in Love - part 2

Image
The " Influential " series - Part Two From the first days of his earthly ministry, Jesus proclaimed the coming of the Kingdom of Heaven. More precisely, he announced that his Kingdom had arrived. If this is true it has many manifestations in the invisible and visible world. In this second chapter we will focus on the visible part, one of the most important Earthly Action of the Kingdom: the Love. By faith we understand that the universe was created by God’s command, so that what is seen has been made from things that are not visible. Heb 11:3 {Holman Christian Standard Bible} The visible heritage (asset) By this all people will know.. I give you a new command: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you must also love one another. By this all people will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another. - the Lord says in Jn 13:34-35 This is how Jesus marked the influencer believers. In John's Gospel, he speak...

Worship, respect, unity, love

Image
Worship is a complex lifestyle in the Scriptures, not an event. Adoration, honor, praise, reverence focuses on the holiness of the majesty, the mightiness, the beauty of the Lord, – this is a constant priestly activity: sacrifice before the Lord, per-se. When we worship in holiness, unity and agreement, "God dwells among us": JHVH Shammah is his name which also clearly points to the name Immanuel : "Gd is with us". Gd's names represent His mighty character. Jesus clearly teaches that His Name should be holy before us: "hallowed be Your Name". His prayer model is the base of the everyday priestly prayer and adoration. In respect. In unity. In love. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. They collapse and fall, but we rise and stand upright. Psalm 20:7-8 The full article is here ☆

Unity, Maturity and Diversity in the Body of Christ

study in the Chapterhouse The Constant Need Ephesians 4:1-16 Holman Christian Standard Bible 1 Therefore I, the prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk worthy of the calling you have received, 2 with all humility and gentleness , with patience {tolerating}, accepting {bearing} one another in love, 3 diligently keeping the unity * of the Spirit with the peace that binds us. 4 There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to {called in} one hope at your calling— 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all. *Keeping the unity means: acceptance and active love ( agape: inviting love / or 'Hesed' ), creating an environment with mutual trust and support. See: David Guzik's article about unity (see: the apostolic heart in Rm.1:12 and 14:19 ) 7 Now grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of the Messiah’s gift. 8 For it says: When He...

Justification and saving faith - Gal 4 & 5

Image
As the majority of modern Christians struggle with a kind of Judaized-Christian worldview, every Bible teacher has a constant duty to maintain an apostolic view of justification by faith and righteousness. On this page we learn from the epistle of Galatians. Here we read an important exposition of how the new state of being redeemed in Christ and justified by faith is distinct from the Jewish view of the law. Background: Paul writes to the churches he established in the southern part of Galatia during his first missionary journey (Acts 13:1–14:28). Unlike Paul’s other greetings here you can not find thanksgiving for or reference to the Galatians’ faith, or love. Earlier, in the chapter 2 he explains, warns that "Justified” life means “counted righteous” or “declared righteous” by God. He points out that by human nature this is not possible: If people obeyed all of God’s perfect moral standards, they could be justified by their own merits. But Paul says that this is...

The " Influential " series - Part One From the first days of his earthly ministry, Jesus proclaimed the coming of the Kingdom of Heaven. More precisely, he announced that his Kingdom had arrived. It has many manifestations in the invisible and visible world. The dynamic of the Kingdom basically: the life, ability and power of the King: The God Almighty . The better we understand His character and abilities, the better we represent his Kingdom in the visible world. The apostolic teaching says: By faith we understand that the universe* was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible. Heb 11:3 {ESV} *Lit. “we understand that the ages of the world (aions) were created by the word of God, so that out of the invisible came the visible.” Here is an important connection between aion and the Word of God The Holman translation is more specific: By faith we understand that the universe...

Praying with Jesus Christ

Image
..there is one God and one mediator between God and humanity, Christ Jesus, Himself human, who gave Himself — a ransom for all, a testimony at the proper time. 1Tim 2:5-6 Therefore, we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens — Jesus the Son of God. Therefore, let us approach the Throne of Grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us at the proper time. Heb 4:14,16 Jesus teaches us about prayer: "I have revealed Your name to the men You gave Me from the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. Now they know that all things You have given to Me are from You, because the words that You gave Me, I have given them. They have received them and have known for certain that I came from You. They have believed that You sent Me. I pray for them. Jn 17:6-10 "when you pray, go into your private room, shut your door, and pray to your Father wh...

Two dimensions of Worship Adoration Prayer

Image
Our Worship, Adoration & Prayer happens / works for two reasons; A. We humans worship Gd because He is the Mighty Gd and we are the creatures of his hand. He created the galaxies and - according to His Image - He created us to live in noble status before His presence. After the ruined status (the sin), He restored the sonship in us by giving us a reconciled, adopted status through His Son. B. We, believers, restored humans worship and pray with adoration because we want to focus on the Heavenly ID: seeing Gd by the Heaven first, learning the Heaven through Gd's eyes. We practice the new life, proclaiming & representing the Heaven as the royal priesthood: (1Pt 2:9), and from this position, "acting" the Heaven: "Your will be done on the Earth     as it is in the Heaven" · Paul's foundation · ID - Cause and Effect · Jesus' two prayer models

Can grace be overstated?

Image
The majority does not understand I think, it is no coincidence at all that the proclamation of God's grace has become real popular nowadays. Popularityalso means: beloved by the crowd. For most believers, including myself in the past, have not understood the Gospel at all, have not understood justification, have not understood regeneration, have not understood what Jesus did on the Cross, It was not understood that we have an abundant heritage, attached to our adopted status. Granted, given things for the believer's. Gifts, support, assets, ongoing sanctification for working with Christ according to our new ID: who we, believers have become in Christ. From this perspective, grace cannot be overstated /overloaded. From the Heavenly perspective everything is abundant and lavish! Mercy grace are lavishly given to us! Masses of believers to this day do not understand these things, their beliefs and thinking are opposed to the true reality ( aletheia ). Whi...

Reality - walking in the Truth

Image
The Word became flesh and took up residence ( tabernacled ) among us. We observed His glory, the glory as the One and Only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. Jn 1:1, 14 Grace and Truth? Well, the first one is more or less obvious. Meanwhile Truth, or more precisely real-truth , or reality → in Greek: "aletheia" has several meanings in the apostolic mindset. He acts in the truth The Greek word translated " truth " is aletheia , which most closely resembles our English word " reality ." It means "the manifested, unconcealed essence of a matter." We could say : truth means, precisely, the reality that reveals itself, the true reality that emerges from under the veil, the unconcealed. (see for example: the book of Revelation, in Greek: "apocalypse"). In contrast to the abstract Disciplines of The Law, this truth is a correct reflection of reality in the mind of man, reality is reality-itself. Al...

Is "Hesed" equal to "Agape"?

Image
God is Love – 1/3 ..how the two loves are linked A study on divine love and the intertwined Christian character Kindness and faithful love (hesed) pursue me every day of my life. I make my home in the house of YHWH for all time to come. Psalm 23:6 For this is how God loved (agape) the world: he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. John 3:16 What is Hesed? The word that is translated to “faithful love” is the Hebrew word “ Hesed (or ' checed' ).” This word is translated in other places as “kindness,” “faithfulness,” “mercy,” “goodness,” “loyalty,” and “steadfast love.” God's love for His covenant people in the Old Testament is expressed by the Hesed . This love expressed in the Hebrew texts as hesed we'emet for example in Gen 24:49; 32:11; 47:29; Ex 34:6; Jos 2:14; 2 Sam 2:6; 15:20. However hesed has a narrower definition than the English word " love ". In th...

Prayer Basics

Apostolic Instructions on Prayer, and the technical meaning of "Christ". First of all, then, I urge 1 that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone 2 , for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life 3 in all godliness and dignity. Collective responsibility for the holiness

Image
Tim Maton – Everyday Church, Wimbledon (Thoughts on 1Cor 5 - Some of the details ) If I had a title for my sermon, it would be “Holiness is a whole church responsibility”. What comes across in Paul’s letters, including this one, is his passion: his passion for Jesus, the Gospel, for people and the Church. It’s because of these passions that Paul desires a holy Church; one that honours Jesus, that proclaims the Gospel, and sees many people saved and transformed by it. Today I want to highlight three ways in which we can take collective responsibility for the holiness of God’s Church. Recognise the destructiveness of unchecked sin Don’t you know that a little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough? Get rid of your old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch - as you really are. (verse 6b-7) Yeast is a type of fungus that’s been commonly used for millennia to make bread rise and alcohol ferment. Despite its amazing properties, the many mentions of yeas...
