Wedding at Cana
respecting the rank
Human perspective VS Kingdom perspective
..a wedding took place in Cana of Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there1, and Jesus and His disciples were invited2 to the wedding as well.
When the wine ran out3, Jesus’ mother told Him,4
“They don’t have any wine.”
“What has this concern of yours to do with Me,5 woman?” Jesus asked. “My hour has not yet come.”
“Do whatever He tells6 you,” His mother told the servants...
“Fill the jars with water7,” Jesus told them.
So they filled them8 to the brim.
Then He said to them, “Now draw some out and take it9 to the chief servant.” And they did.8
(the water had become wine, Jesus took away the shame)10
...
"You have kept the fine wine until now"11 - said the chief servant.

Now, let we see the dynamic in the record by faith.
1 the text suggest that Mary already was there, probably before Jesus came with his disciples. Some scholar suggest that it is Mary's closest circle, but we don't know from the text
2 They were invited: they were known among the close relatives and after all Jesus was Mary's son...
3 If the wine runs out: that's embarrassing and shameful to the fame (rank, dignity) of the family
4 Mary turns to Jesus, quasi: "do something" We see from Jesus' reaction (p5) that he did not see it as his duty to intervene. Do not forget: Jesus is the grown up firstborn, He started His earthly ministry, and the decision was no longer on His mother's side, but depended on His own discretion and will. Mary acted according to human reasoning. Jesus had nothing to do with it - for the time being, he did nothing.
5 or: "what does this have to do with me?"
6 the turning point / pivotal point, when Mary reacted according to the real authority.
7 Jesus commands
8 they obeyed
9 it must be revealed before the public
10 Redemption takes away problems, faults, shame...
11 This is the nature of Gd's gift: it's far better than human solutions. The 2nd meaning of the sentence is prophetic.
