How do we apply this message about “The Lord Who Provides” in our day to day life?
Ask and trust
Matthew 7:7
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”
When we are in need, all we need to do is to ask God and trust Him through our seeking and knocking.
God cares about the details. Nothing is wasted. God does not want us to fix our eyes on our own circumstances but on Him alone, nothing else.
Package
Be open to God’s package
God’s provision can come in different shapes and forms. Be open and don’t limit God even if His provision doesn’t come packaged the way you think it should.
Be open & don’t limit God
God provided manna for the Israelites when they were in the desert.
The word manna means “what is it?”. They had never seen anything like it. It required faith to receive it.
God knows the best. When He opens the door, go with it.
Proverbs 3:5
“Lean not on your own understanding.”
“Lean not on your own understanding.”
Call
Commit to your call
We are called to worship God and Him alone, not God plus something else. Do not let the provision of God become our idol and take our eyes off God.
Fruits
Hold things lightly, even our blessings. The first fruits do not belong to us, they are God’s. We have whatever is left.
It is non-negotiable. We are called to give the Lord our first fruits, not the leftover (i.e. how much we have got left after paying the mortgage, food and necessities).
In the OT. – But now we have NT!
When we follow God, we always have more than enough. Do not trade God with your career, your finance, and your ambition.
Desert and Giants
Don’t be afraid of the deserts and giants
God took the Israelites from Egypt into the wilderness where little or nothing grows and taught them to trust in Him alone.
God.. taught them to trust in Him alone.
There are seasons in our life that we are in that desert. It is not that God doesn’t love or care about us anymore.
Hosea 2:14-15 (NKJ)
“Therefore, behold, I will allure her, will bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfort to her. I will give her her vineyards from there, and the Valley of Achor as a door of hope; She shall sing there, As in the days of her youth, As in the day when she came up from the land of Egypt”.
“Therefore, behold, I will allure her, will bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfort to her. I will give her her vineyards from there, and the Valley of Achor as a door of hope; She shall sing there, As in the days of her youth, As in the day when she came up from the land of Egypt”.
It is the love of God that took the Israelites to the desert to restore His love relationships into His people.
If you are in that desert place, know that God is with you. Take that opportunity to know Him deeper and ask Him to lead you in His gentle whisper.
Do not settle on the physical manna. Let the heavenly manna satisfy you:
– the word from Him
– the intimacy of the Holy Spirit
– the gift of righteousness through the propitiation &
- the covenant with Christ
- the adopted child's life in the family
– the..
– the..
Do not be afraid of giants. God gave the Israelites the promised land. When Moses sent the 12 men to spy the land, 10 returned and said, the land flows with milk and honey, but the giants are there and they are too strong for us.
!!
Do not be afraid of giants.
God gave the Israelites the promised land.
God gave the Israelites the promised land.
Only Joshua and Caleb had the courage to throw out the giants to possess the land.
Numbers 14:24
“my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly”.
“my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly”.
Do we carry the same spirit?
(believing in his promise:the land & having a whole heart)
Sometimes God’s provision comes with the giants. There are blessings in the battle.
That keeps us humble and dependent on Jesus.
For others
In the season that we are in, we have many opportunities to rely on God’s provision for us and for the people around us. We can be God’s vessel to provide for others.
He is a good, good Father and He always provides. It is in His nature to do so because He loves us. Don’t second guess his love. His name is called Jehovah Jireh, The Lord Who Provides.
