Looking, weeping, and living

About Zech 12:10 By David Guzik – Enduring Word Today, let's talk about looking, weeping, and living . I'm going to read you from Zechariah 12, verse 10, where we read this. And I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the spirit of grace and supplication. Then they will look on me whom they have pierced. Yes, they will mourn for him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for him as one grieves for a firstborn. Zechariah 12:10 Zechariah 12 is all about a great outpouring of the spirit of God upon his ancient people of Israel. He promises to bless, restore, and strengthen them in the last days. As Zechariah tells us in chapter 12, verse 10, part of this great outpouring of strength and might to defend Jerusalem will be an outpouring of his spirit. But it will be for grace and supplication. God will move among Israel and bring saving grace and repentant prayer. Then God made a remarkable promise: Then they will look o...

Covenant Assurance

By David Guzik {enduringword.com} on May 26, 2024 (Abraham) said, “Lord GOD, how shall I know that I will inherit it?” Genesis 15:8 Jesus spoke of faith that could move mountains (based on Matthew 17:20), but often our doubts seem to create those mountains. Trusting God and His promises is a constant challenge, faced by everyone who has ever tried to chase away doubt. Sometimes doubt comes from unbelief – an attitude that doubts God will keep His word or can keep His promises. Other times doubt is connected to faith that is growing and maturing; a doubt that recognizes that there is no weakness or wavering in God, but we are weak in our ability to trust. This was the kind of doubt that led a desperate father to say to Jesus, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24) God promised Abram a son and he waited ten (10!) years. Abram was successful in business and every other enterprise, but he thought “what good is all that without the fulfillment of God’s promis...

Big Use of Small Things

Image
24th of May 2024 by David Guzik Let's talk about when Gd makes a "Big Use of Small Things". For who has despised the day of small things? For these seven rejoice to see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel. They are the eyes of the Lord, which scan to and fro throughout the whole earth. Zech 4:10 Zechariah's question rings through us today. Almost every one of us might answer: "I have despised the day of small things." After all, God has a wonderful, though perhaps difficult, purpose for those days. These words were first directed to Zerubbabel, who led the city government of Jerusalem and was in charge of the project to rebuild the Temple. The work had stalled for many years, yet the Lord called it only a day of small things for Zerubbabel. It must have seemed like a very long day because the work of the temple was paused for almost 20 years. He probably would say to God, what do you mean a day of small things? I've live...

What are the rod and staff in Psalm 23?

Image
by GotQuestions.org Psalm 23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. ... Psalm 23 is a beautiful poem that uses the image of God as shepherd. David, who penned this psalm, had been a shepherd himself and understood the parallel between the task of a shepherd caring for his sheep and of God caring for His people. Sheep are totally dependent on the shepherd for food, water, leadership, and guidance as they move from place to place, just as we are dependent upon God for all that we need. Sheep depend on the shepherd for protection from a wide range of predators and dangers, just as we look to God as our Protector and Defender. I...
