Desiring mercy - love

When Jesus/Yeshua/Isa was humiliated and lashed he had to learn the total annihilation.
Annihilation by Sin and the mechanically used Law.
By Sin: through our human cruel nature.
By Law: through human "rules" the misunderstanding of the Holy Law, the ineffectiveness of the so called Law-culture. Facing its cruelty when it faces the mercy, release, grace and the domain of reconciliation.
Hos 6:6 says:
"I desire mercy {loyalty-love}
  not sacrifice
The knowledge of Gd
  not burnt offerings"
mended by gold
This is an essential ingredient for the dynamic of the Kingdom, even today. Knowledge of Gd = faithful loyal love. Mercy, (even when confronted with secular order, trend, or religious spirits) = sync with Gd.
Consequently: If The knowledge of Gd is mercy, it's action.
The knowledge of Gd is knowing/practicing His thoughts and living out them: This is how we read: "walking in the Truth". John says:
I was very glad when some brothers came and testified to your faithfulness to the truth — how you are walking in the truth.
3Jn 1:3
Walking in the Truth is walking according to Gd's Word and walking in Love. (see 2Jn 1:4-6)
This parallel - mercy & knowledge - has deep roots in the Old Testament too.
This is the Truth - through the ages. It comes with a counterculture in the world. Godliness comes with suffering in the "post truth" Generation.
Every worshipper will see opposition during the Christian life. Meanwhile, every faithful confess that God is faithful and his provision comes with understanding:
Lord, open my lips,
and my mouth will declare Your praise.
You do not want a sacrifice, or I would give it;
You are not pleased with a burnt offering.
The sacrifice pleasing to God is a broken spirit.
God, You will not despise a broken and humbled heart.
Ps 51:15-17

I often meet and talk with people from different religious backgrounds. I found astonishingly large number of situations where various misconceptions about holiness and "being saint" were proclaimed. These misconceptions take many different forms, but they are almost always linked to a type of “humility” that is detached from reality and superficial, as well as to a view that one has no value as a person. People simply cannot be free from the "Roman Catholic" misconception that holiness is a human characteristic or quality of the human moral. Let me clarify that last sentence right away.
