Distinguishing between morally good and bad

pre

Our next topic is one of the thinnest quality /element of the Protestant personality. Many people try to bypass the area of repentance. Primarily because in their mindset it associated with the Catholicism Protestantism "threw the baby out with the bathwater" - in some cases. Important elements such as continual priestly ministry, apostolic work - methods and the necessary confession of sins and a good conscience must be restored. So let us look at the topic of conscience.

Usage

Suneidesis {soon-i'-day-sis}
Strong 4893

1) from a prolonged form of G4894: co-perception, i.e. moral consciousness: —conscience.

2) the consciousness of anything

3) the soul as distinguishing between what is morally good and bad, prompting to do the former and shun the latter, commending one, condemning the other

For the better understanding we must look up the cognate word which is the:
Suneido {soon-i'-do}.
Strong 4894

It means "co-perception":
1) to understand, perceive, comprehend

2) to see (have seen) together with others

3) to know with another

According to the Greek mindset co-perception has strong connection with the conscience. (just look at the word "con-science"!) But we will also see below that this is a fundamental part of the apostles' teaching: To discern, appreciate, or not appreciate things and events around us from Christ's perspective.

The word Suneidesis is used in the New Testament 32 times. Both John, Luke, Paul, and the writer of the Hebrew letter use the word, pointing to the believer's active participation in discernment. Our task is: discerning the world and building, keeping, maintaining a clear conscience. It is part of the process of our sanctification.
